Social Policies and Well-Being in Later Life in Europe
Public thesis seminar presented by Dilare Ecenur Irbik
- BS in Sociology, METU, Türkiye
- MA in Sociology, University of Mannheim, Germany
Older adults are not a homogeneous social group. Their needs vary depending on their life course and the social, technological and economic changes in the societies, thereby affecting their well-being. However, to what extent are policies for older adults inclusive and diverse, and how do they have an impact on their well-being? This seminar will unveil the results of a study which maps the unaddressed key topics of well-being in the main ageing policy frameworks. It also explains to what extent social policies mitigate the negative impact of declining physical health on well-being in later life, considering the country context and adjusting for the sociodemographic background of individuals.
